CONTACT Photography Festival: I'm New Here by Jake Sherman Exhibition Review

I love the month of May in Toronto. Not only does the weather (usually) become warmer but festivals both large and small start popping up all over the city, including the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, which runs for the whole month of May! I try to go several CONTACT exhibits every year and 2016 is no exception.

A few weeks ago I was privileged to attend the opening reception of Toronto photographer Jake Sherman's photography exhibit, I'm New Here, at the new Nuvango Gallery on Queen Street West.

Born and raised in Toronto, Sherman has brought together some of his best and favourite large scale prints of his travels across North America and Cuba. His images reflect a mix of street, documentary and conceptual photography. He brings a fresh perspective to the everyday moments in life.

Although this exhibit is not as large as some, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have been to a few CONTACT exhibits already, and this is one of my favourites so far. I love the mix of different subjects and the colours (or lack thereof) Sherman uses in his photographs. I'm New Here runs until May 31, 2016.
