Exhibit: Getting Lost in Song Dong's World at the AGO!

AGO's Song Dongs's Communal Courtyard Installation Review

A few weeks ago I got to preview the AGO's newest exhibit Song Dong's Communal Courtyard. It's an interesting interactive exhibit that I truly lost myself in.

Visitors are asked to wander through 100 vintage wardrobe doors, peeking through windows to see what's inside.

The exhibition is reminiscent of the old walkways and lane ways of Beijing's past and reminded me when I was child and we all knew our neighbours. All the doors look similar, but on closer inspection, I could see the remnants of the person or persons who use to own them, from old pictures still attached or markings etched into the wood. I wonder if the previous owners of the doors ever thought their old wardrobe doors would end up halfway across the world as an art exhibit? A really cool detail of the installation is that the artist chose pieces from AGO's collection to be placed behind the windows. Through an old Chinese wardrobe door, Andy Warhol's Karen Kain is peeking through. I loved this exhibit. It was nice to get lost in someone else's world at a time when mine was so crazy.
