Exhibit: Making Memories at Gladstone Hotel's Hard Twist!

Gladstone Hotel's Hard Twist 10: Memory Exhibition Review

Over the weekend, I took my almost three year-old nephew to his first art show - The Hard Twist: Memory exhibition at Gladstone Hotel. I figured a textile exhibit at the cool Gladstone Hotel was safer choice than a pristine gallery full of breakable pieces for his first introduction to the art world. And both my nephew and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

I always enjoy the Hard Twist exhibitions. Hard Twist 8 and Hard Twist 9 are two of my favourite exhibits from last year. And it has become an important annual event within the Canadian Textile Art community and a Gladstone Hotel signature event.

Every Hard Twist event, a theme is chosen. For the tenth installment of Hard Twist, the theme of memory was chosen and each piece on display explores the relationship between memory and cloth.

'Memory winds its way through textiles, a constant thread that runs through the earliest archaeological fragments, the latest experimental synthetics and everything in between. Textiles hold memory, recall memory, record – and occasionally obscure – memory. In some recent incarnations they even have memory.'

As always, I thoroughly enjoyed the Hard Twist exhibit. It was so much fun introducing my nephew to not only the Gladstone Hotel with its unique elevator and ambiance, but seeing art pieces through his innocent eyes. He was so proud to see art, that his was telling everyone he met (whether they liked it or not) that 'I saw art!' and 'Don't touch the art!' Both my nephew and I have made some amazing memories from our trip to the Gladstone Hotel that will last for a long time. Hard Twist: Memory runs until December 27, 2015. Please visit Gladstone Hotel for more information.

P.s!: The Gladstone Hotel is a perfect place to introduce children to art that is not specifically targeted for them. The hotel is kid-friendly and the building is just really cool!

P.s,
Melanie!
