Toronto Artist Spotlight: The Extraordinary Candace Wilson!

Henri Matisse could've been describing Canadian artist Candace Wilson when he famously said "Creativity takes courage". After spending an unforgettable evening with Wilson at her west-end art studio, I feel like she is one of the most inspirational and courageous female artists I have met in a long time.

Candace Wilson is a Toronto-based abstract artist that has led an extraordinary life. Inspired by what she has seen and learned in her world travels, she paints with a deeper understanding of her spirituality and an openness to what is happening around her, both physically and mentally.

After graduating from the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Angers, France, Wilson kept traveling across the globe inspiring her to create beautiful art. Wilson's abstract paintings have been collected both in Canada and abroad. 

 

Recently she has been focusing her efforts on creating her Healing and Chakra Paintings, a series of paintings based on "the idea of using textures and shapes mirrored both in nature and in the cells of the body... [and] results in a more powerful healing vibration emanating from the paintings." Wilson incorporates 'awakened and cleansed' crystals, gemstones and metals into her paintings which can range in size and shape. Written on the back of all her Chakra paintings are the om sign, the crystal or gemstone used, and of course her signature. I was fortunate enough to be gifted by Wilson, with a throat Chakra painting infused with aquamarine (my birthstone) and copper. The Throat Chakra, which is believed to be the centre of communication and creativity of thought via speech and writing, is the perfect gift to give a blogger.
