Exhibit: Cool & Interesting Beauty at Museum of Inuit Art!

MIA's Boldly Baker Lake + Stories from the Vault Exhibition Reviews

Over the weekend I visited The Museum of Inuit Art (MIA) down at the Queens Quay Terminal building in Toronto. I always enjoy visiting this small and charming museum filled with amazing Inuit sculptures and artwork.

In addition to the museum's permanent collection, there are three exhibitions currently running at the MIA - Boldly Baker Lake: Barnabus Arnasungaaq, Stories from the Vault, and Collaboratively Created Ceramics from Rankin. Each small exhibition is quite interesting, beautiful and worth the trip down to the construction-riddled harbourfront.

Boldly Baker Lake is a very small exhibit consisting of stone sculptures created by Baker Lake's most recognizable artist, Barnabus Arnasungaaq. I have seen his work before and always loved his unique minimalist style.

Stories from the Vault is a very interesting exhibition. Several art pieces are displayed that the MIA Collections Team is trying to find more information on as well as art pieces that have cools facts and stories surrounding them that the Team has uncovered. I followed the art 'cases' with the 'case files' folder I received from the museum's front desk. It was really cool to get a small glimpse at how museums find information on their acquisitions.

The last exhibit, Collaboratively Created Ceramics from Rankin, seems to have no end date and closely resembles The Matchbox Gallery: A Retrospective exhibit from a few months ago.

I love visiting this museum. It only costs $5 and it always has something unique and interesting to see. Boldly Baker Lake: Barnabus Arnasungaaq is running until August 29, 2015 and Stories from the Vault is on display until June 6, 2015.

P.s!: The Museum of Inuit Art also has a large gallery and gift shop with many original art pieces for sale.

P.s,
Melanie!
