Exhibit: Douglas Coupland is Anywhere in Toronto!

Douglas Coupland's ROM Exhibition Review

From a gum graffitied 7-foot head on Bloor Street West to major exhibitions at two of Toronto's best museums, Douglas Coupland is everywhere and anywhere! I enjoyed the Douglas Coupland exhibition at MOCCA a few weeks ago and last Friday night, I finally got to visit the rest of the Coupland art invasion at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM).

Douglas Coupland: everywhere is anywhere is anything is everything is the first major exhibition exploring Canadian artist Douglas Coupland's pop art. It is also the first partnership between the ROM and MOCCA.

Pop Explosion
The ROM exhibition consisted of five different sections: Pop Explosion, Words Into Objects, 21st Century Condition, The Reading Corner, and The Brain. Some of the art pieces were very interesting and thought provoking, like Coupland's painting The Poet (2013). Others were overwhelmingly mindless like Slogans for the 21st Century (2011-2014), although I'm sure that was the purpose, while others had potential and were just shy of being amazing, like The Brain (2014).

The entire exhibition was certainly a spectacle - pop art made for the masses - that you will either love or hate. I recommend a visit, it's kind of like a car crash that you just can't look away from, a little like life itself. Douglas Coupland: everywhere is anywhere is anything is everything is running until April 26 at the ROM, until April 19 at MOCCA, and Gumhead has been extended until March 28, 2015. Please visit CouplandTO for more information.

P.s,
Melanie!
