Event: Frozen in Time at IceFest 2015!

Bloor-Yorkville IceFest 2015 Recap & Photos

Among hundreds of people, I braved the freezing cold last Saturday to view scenes, objects, and people normally associated with a blistering hot desert climate, that were being carved out of cold ice. It was the annual Bloor-Yorkville Ice Fest and Sassafraz Ice Carving Competition.

Now in its tenth year, the Bloor-Yorkville Ice Fest has become one of my favourite Toronto winter events.

Exhibit: Kristiina Lahde's Ultra Parallel World!

Koffler Gallery's Kristiina Lahde: Ultra-Parallel Exhibition Review

Last weekend I braved the freezing temperatures for the chance see Koffler Art Gallery's latest exhibit - Kristiina Lahde: Ultra-Parallel.

Kristiina Lahde: Ultra-Parallel Exhibit at Koffler Art Gallery in Toronto, exhibition, artmatters, Youngplace, Culture, measurment, yardsticks, tape, math, numbers, the purple scarf, melanieps, ontario, canada
(L-R): Greater than, Less than, 2015; From a Straight Line to a Curve, 2014; Slide Rule, 2014
Ultra-Parallel is an interesting solo exhibit by Toronto-based artist Kristiina Lahde, in which she playfully alters ordinary measurement instruments into something new and stunning. From three dressmakers' measuring tapes cut in 2 halves - one precise, the other left to dangle - to a large geodesic ball made from old yardsticks, the underlying humour in Lahde's work is a little hard to miss, but well worth the effort of looking.

Makeup Review: Beautiful Brows from Benefit!

Benefit's Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel Review

Over the last few months, I have been reviewing and posting about some of the fabulous beauty products I received in my Spark Sessions swag bag. One of those fabulous products was Benefit's gimme Brow in light/medium, and I was dying to try it!

Beautifully arched eyebrows have been a beauty trend for many years, one that I have been trying to perfect for way too long. I can remember penciling in my eyebrows back in high school (not a good look for me) and years later I'm still hunting for a fabulous brow product that will help me achieve perfect eyebrows. With Benefit's gimme Brow, I came pretty close.

My Style: I Heart New York & Andy Warhol!

Converse Andy Warhol Shoes and Vero Moda Skirt Outfit

A few weeks ago I posted about the fabulous limited edition Converse Andy Warhol Collection. I finally picked up a pair of these limited edition shoes and I'm so excited to show them off!

Two of my greatest loves are shoes and art and when they come together, it's like it's my birthday and Christmas all rolled into one fabulous moment! I love my new converse shoes, although they don't provide much protection in snow and slush. Now more than ever, I'm counting down the days until Spring (19 more days)!

Exhibit: Douglas Coupland is everywhere in Toronto!

Douglas Coupland's Gumhead and MOCCA Exhibition Review

If you have walked down Bloor Street West in Toronto's Yorkville area, you might have noticed the huge head covered in chewed up gum pieces in the new Holt Renfrew Men's store window. It's not a new and upcoming crazy fashion design, but a large bust of famous Canadian artist and writer Douglas Coupland. Beside the head are free bubble gum machines, where people are free to take a piece of gum and after chewing it, are encouraged to literally 'stick it to the man'.

Restaurant Review: A Little Piece of Japanese Cuisine Heaven!

EDO-Ko Food Menu Review

A few weeks ago I enjoyed the best meal I had in a long time. The restaurant was EDO-Ko and the meal was an assortment of some of their amazing Japanese cuisine dishes.

I have enjoyed Sushi thousands of times before, but apparently I have never really ate authentic Japanese cuisine until that night. Just one of the interesting things I learned that cold night in January.

The Converse All Star Andy Warhol Collection Preview

I'm really excited for this weekend!!! Not only is it the weekend and I don't have to go to my full time paying job (always a cause for excitement) but this Saturday is the official launch date of the ANDY WARHOL X Converse Spring 2015 Collection in Canada! It's always a cause for celebration when the pop art world collides with the fashion world!

Exhibit: Entering the World of Comics at the AGO!

Art Gallery of Ontario's Art Spiegelman's CO-MIX: A Retrospective Review

During a day off two weeks ago, I spent the afternoon at the AGO, letting myself get a good dose of some Art Therapy. I reacquainted myself with some favourite pieces of art and was introduced to some new and exciting ones, which included a visit to the Art Spiegelman exhibit.

I have to admit, I don't know much about comics and graphic novels and I can count on one hand how many I have read. But after visiting Art Spiegelman's CO-MIX: A Retrospective, I am inclined to take another look at the graphic novel section in my next bookstore visit.
