Style Obsession & Trend Alert: Sunglasses

One of my fashion loves (and vices) is sunglasses! I love them! Not only can they complete an outfit perfectly, but they are functional as well. I have extremely sensitive eyes and have to wear sunglasses practically every time I'm outside, which is why in most of My Style posts, I'm wearing sunglasses. And they also protect my eyes from the sun and are a fabulous solution to covering up tired looking eyes, making me look and feel more awake.

My obsession for sunglasses started when I was a little girl watching celebrities sporting shades both on and off screen and listening to Corey Hart singing about wearing sunglasses at night. Sunglasses made them look glamourous and chic in my young eyes. I will never forget Tom Cruise's sunglasses in Risky Business and Top Gun or Audrey Hepburn's large shades in Breakfast at Tiffany's or the whole cast from Beverly Hills 90210, having fun in the sun in their sunnies. But, I unfortunately had to get prescription glasses at the age of 7 and owning and wearing a variety of fashion and funky sunglasses only became a dream. It was way too expensive to own more than one pair of prescription sunglasses, and with my astigmatism, contacts was something I can only wear for a short period of time. But I longed for the day that I could buy those trendy and inexpensive pair of sunnies I saw at almost every clothing store. But a few years ago, that all changed.

Several years ago, I took the plunge and had laser eye surgery. I was nervous and apprehensive about the procedure, but it was easy and not as painful as I thought it would be. Now over 3 years later, my vision is still better than 20/20, and I own more than 40 pairs of sunglasses (I would own more, but I keep breaking/losing them:). To say I went a little crazy sunglass shopping after my surgery is an understatement. Within 3 days of my surgery, I already bought 8 new pair of sunglasses! I couldn't help myself; they were so pretty and cheap! Places like H&M and Forever 21 offer a huge variety of trendy sunglasses under $10! I still haven't bought myself an expensive pair of sunglasses, but one day I will. I think spending that much money on a pair sunglasses reminds me too much of the money I spent on prescription glasses. But like little girls, big girls can dream! P.s!: With the summer season winding down (sob), there are great clearance sales on sunglasses at a variety of stores! A perfect time to pick up a pair or two or eight! Remember, sunglasses can be worn all year long!
