Enjoying the Steam Whistle Brewing Tour

There are so many great places and areas to visit in Toronto. I love exploring interesting places like the Toronto Public Labyrinth, and revisiting some fun places like Steam Whistle Brewery. Last week a friend and I enjoyed an afternoon of beer and fun, as we took part of The Steam Whistle Brewing tour at the Roundhouse downtown Toronto. I have been on the Steam Whistle tour before, but it was over 7 years ago, as part of a birthday party. I was excited to take The Steam Whistle Brewing tour again, as the details from my last tour are a little hazy.

The Steam Whistle Brewery is located at The Roundhouse, across from The CN Tower. It's a historic building with a rich history that was originally built in 1929. My friend and I signed up for an afternoon tour and while we were waiting, sampled the Steam Whistle Pilsner and enjoyed the free art work displayed throughout the bar area.

The tour started with our group of about 10 people, picking up a pair of headphones (to hear the tour guide clearer in the loud brewery) and a free bottle of Steam Whistle beer.  We then were taken to a large room, where our tour guide explained the history of the Roundhouse building and of The Steam Whistle Brewing Company. Our guide then led us throughout the brewery and explained the whole process of brewing, packaging, and even the marketing of Steam Whistle beer. The tour lasted about 30 minutes and the guide was entertaining and knowledgeable. Not only did I learn more about Steam Whistle Beer, but about beer in general. I also loved the small historical details given about Toronto and The Roundhouse building and the free beer was a plus!

Although the tour is about beer, most ages will enjoy this informative behind the scenes look into the Steam Whistle Brewery, but only those over 19 will be able to drink the beer! Tour prices start at $10 and can go up to $26, depending on your choice of souvenir. Tours run daily from 12:30pm - 5:00pm, Monday - Thursday (reservations available); 12:00pm - 5:00pm Friday - Saturday (first come, first served), and Sunday 12:00pm - 4:00pm (first come, first served).
