Nuit Rose Culture + Art Event Review

Heya! Last Saturday I participated in the Nuit Rose art crawl presented as a part of the World Pride Toronto event. I was very excited to visit the many art projects and installations and see how World Pride Toronto can produce their own Nuit Blanche type event. I asked a friend to join me and we started the crawl at 519 Church Street downtown Toronto.

The first thing I noticed was the program and map for the night was not very organized, it was hard to find some of the exhibits on the map. And when we finally found where the exhibits were supposed to be, they were not there. Several of the exhibits I just gave up on trying to find. Also, some of the start times for some of the exhibits were later than the start time for the Nuit Rose event, which was inconvenient since we wanted to catch the free art bus across downtown to some of the other exhibits.

 Regardless of some of these negatives, I found the night to be a very positive experience and an excellent effort from the organizers to present a complicated free event for the first time. During the night, I got to view some amazing artwork, played in a small balloon room, laughed with mind reading drag queens, talked to a watermelon while he gave me a manicure, walked through a mad queer brain, and enjoyed a surreal bus ride through downtown singing altered hymns with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. I really enjoyed learning about the sisters and their Toronto mission and charity work. Overall it was a fabulous night! I hope Pride Toronto continues with this free event for years to come!
