Exhibit: Beautiful Storytelling At The TMC!

Heya! A few weeks ago I visited the Textile Museum of Canada (TMC) for the first time. I initially went to see the the From Geisha to Diva: The Kimonos of Ichimaru exhibit (please read my post here), but I happily learned that included with my admission was the other two exhibits now on at TMC:  Telling Stories and Fictions and Legends: Heather Goodchild and Jerome Havre. What a fabulous surprise!

Telling Stories features artifacts from TMC's permanent collection. The exhibition examines the "human impulse to capture real and imagined experiences". From modern issues like traffic fatalities in India to a 12th century tragic love story from Persia, each artifact tells a story within the beautiful tapestry. This exhibit was very small and not for everyone. I enjoyed the beautiful workmanship and detail of the artifacts, but those who are not interested in traditional textile art, would not enjoy this exhibit.

Fictions and Legends displays the work of Heather Goodchild and Jerome Havre who use "visual storytelling to invent biographical and mythical histories that hint at the presence of secret societies and systems of belief,  mystical practices, and alternative culture codes." This was a very interesting and diverse exhibit that displayed various textile art mediums from stuffed figures hanging in a vibrantly painted room to a large rug hooking tapestry, each item tells it's own beautiful story. I liked to imagine my own narrative for each piece.
